Gibbon Invites Public to Outdoor Retailer

Gibbon Invites Public to Outdoor Retailer

Typically a private affair, Outdoor Retailer invades Salt Lake City but stays behind closed doors. Gibbon Slacklines plans to set-up outside and invite the public.

BOULDER, COLORADO- Gibbon Slacklines makes easy to use 2 piece slackline kits that can be set- up between two trees or other anchor points. They have been powering the growth of this emerging sport by sending their pro athletes all over the country to demonstrate how it’s done. Outdoor Retailer will be no different as the company plans to have slacklines set-up outside the South entrance of the Salt Palace each day in addition to their indoor display at booth number 1.

They’ll offer clinics with the pros at 9am, 12 & 3pm each day, and have the lines out and open to the public for the duration of the show 9-6pm daily. Many people are not yet familiar with slacklining, the basic act of balancing along a dynamic strip of webbing, but Gibbon is confident that their efforts to increase exposure will change that. “Once people try it they’re hooked,” says Gibbon pro athlete, Jeremy Louis, “we see it every time we’re out doing a demo.”

The company has been rapidly expanding and plans on rolling out a new pricing structure, new displays and new product at the show. A new addition to the 2” series will be the SURFLINE at an incredible 30meters (nearly 100 feet) offering a long line challenge.

A new pro series of 1” lines will also be introduced featuring the FLOWLINE, a flat webbing option, and a woven tube in tube webbing designed by slackliners, the PROLINE. These one inch width lines will appeal to the more advanced or traditional slackliner and will be sold in spools.

Gibbon has also designed new displays for retailers to engage customers and introduce them to sport utilizing photography and videos. Making the product even more appealing, the company has adjusted pricing to be affordable offering a line up ranging from $75-$120 per kit.

General Information about Gibbon

Gibbon Slacklines bring hours of entertainment wherever they go...

BOULDER, COLORADO– Quick to set up and easy to learn, Gibbon Slacklines are an incredibly fun way to increase balance, build muscle and stay active in the outdoors.

Slacklining is the act of balancing along a narrow, dynamic length of webbing low to the ground. Once exclusive to those with climbing gear knowledge, this fun and active pastime is now accessible to anyone thanks to Gibbon Slacklines and their proprietary new slackline system.

Consisting of two pieces of webbing and a ratcheting tensioner, the Gibbon Slackline system differs from traditional slacklines in several key ways. Gibbon Slacklines set up easily in minutes, are 2 inches wide, (twice as wide as traditional slacklines), and can be slung at any height resulting in a zero intimidation factor.

“The beauty of Gibbon Slacklines is that they provide the perfect mix of fun, focus, balance, and strength training,” said Ricardo Bottome, president of Canaima Outdoors who is the distributor for North and South America. “We have set up our lines all over the world and the result is always the same. A crowd forms and just about everyone gives it a try. We constantly hear about how addictive and fun this activity is.”

Available in several lengths and webbing styles, Gibbon Slacklines easily accommodate any environment or ability level. A high-tension ratcheting system allows the slackline to be set up anywhere using trees in the backyard, sand at the beach, or anchors in a gym. Setting up two or more slacklines can add diversity to your play and encourage team building which has led many schools to incorporate them into P.E. programs.

Gibbon Slacklines have found fans in a wide variety of places as their demo team of athletes tour the U.S. creating a community of dedicated and recreational slackline users. Now that the sport has gained momentum Gibbon has been charged with increasing the difficulty level.

In response, Gibbon has announced new additions to the product line including the surfer line at nearly 100 feet long and a series of one inch lines that will all be released in the fall of 2010.

A great way to increase balance, athletes from any sport can benefit from the balance-enhancement provided by time spent on the slackline. Even physical therapists have utilized the benefits of the Gibbon Slackline to help patients recover from ACL surgery and train small muscles for injury prevention.

Originating in Stuttgart, Germany, Gibbon Slacklines have gained popularity around the world and Boulder, CO is now home to the North and South American distribution. Used and enjoyed by everyone including kids, adults, physical therapists, and athletes of all levels, Gibbon Slacklines are a fun and accessible way to increase balance, build muscle, and rehabilitate injuries. Gibbon Announces Opening of Innagural Slackline Park

Gibbon has partnered with Vail Resort to install their first slackline park in time for the summer season.

BOULDER, COLORADO June 22, 2010- Gibbon Slacklines has grown tremendously over the past year and is expanding the scope of their brand, by installing seasonal parks. Vail Resort is the first to be completed and is set to open June 24, 2010 for the full time summer activity area at Adventure Ridge.

Balancing on the 2 inch webbing presents a challenge for the core and lower body muscles, yet remains a fun and mentally stimulating activity. Slacklines are often used for sport specific training by skiers, snowboarders, cyclists, climbers, and gymnasts. The parks are a new application of the product that brings awareness to the emerging sport.

Vail Resort hopes to provide a popular summer activity for families with the bonus of improving snow sport skills. The new park is host to 10 Gibbon slacklines ranging in length from 10 to 40 feet and offers three varieties of webbing to meet all ability levels.

All of the slacklines are less than a foot off the sand covered ground, so it is safe and appropriate for all ages. Vail had a soft opening already to see the lines in action and “it has been wildly popular already,” says Alex Gentry, General Manager of Vail’s Adventure Ridge. He notes that more people have used the park in the past two weeks than did the volley ball courts it replaced in 3 years.

The park is a free activity included in the gondola fee and will open full time June 24 and remain open through Labor Day weekend.

The slackline season is in its peak during the summer months as the typical home user would attach the line between two trees. “It makes sense for us to start our endeavor of creating permanent parks or activity areas in ski resorts as the timing is perfect for an off season attraction,” notes Ricardo Bottome, president of Gibbon Slacklines North and South America distribution.

Gibbon anticipates many other resorts to follow suit and have current plans with Aspen Snowmass and Whitetail Resort in Pennsylvania for similar installations. The company hopes to launch the idea further by partnering with playgrounds and amusement parks in the future.

Gibbon Athletes Attempt World Record

Six of the U.S. Gibbon Pro Rider Team attempt the worlds’ longest highline.

BOULDER, CO April 9, 2010 -Six members of Gibbon Slacklines’ Pro Team set out today for a week long excursion to establish multiple highline records, most notably the longest documented highline. Slacklining is the art of walking across a narrow, dynamic length of webbing anchored between two fixed points.

What defines and distinguishes a highline is that the height of the line exceeds the length. The current world record is debated by some, but generally known amongst enthusiast to be 240 feet at maximum and only crossed in one direction.

The Gibbon Team aspires to make it official and set out to rig a 1” line longer and much higher than any other documented highline. They have set out with the goal of crossing an incredible void in both directions by as many of the team as possible in the allotted time.

The project came underway with the leadership of Andy Lewis, but the exact location has not been disclosed due to the immense level of quiet and concentration required to attempt this feat. The team expects to be rigged by April 13 and beginning the attempt by April 14. The weather is a certain factor in the time frame as exposure to conditions is at its’ peak.

The Pros attempting to break multiple records are Andy Lewis and Micheal Payton, the two finalists in Gibbons’ world slackline competition, Emily Sukiennk, Jeremy Louis, Libby Sauter, and Hayley Ashburn. Gibbon will be updating the teams’ progress via facebook and twitter throughout the project and will release the official measurements once the line is set.

The athletes can also be monitored via their personal facebook pages. ( Andy Lewis, Michael Payton, Emily Sukiennik, Jeremy Louis, Libby Sauter, and Hayley Ashburn)

This event serves as a kick off to a major upcoming Gibbon Pro Summer Tour.

Slacklines well received by AAHPERD Convention; New Sales Reps Hired

BOULDER, CO March 26, 2010- Gibbon Slacklines has been rapidly growing in the outdoor and toy industry, and is now receiving massive attention from health and fitness educators in schools across the country.

Last week the American Association of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (AAHPERD) held their annual convention in Indianapolis, IN. Gibbon was in attendance for the first time and were greeted with much enthusiasm and support from teachers and coaches nationwide.

Gibbon expects dramatic increases in sales due to the exposure at AAHPERD. The applications of slacklining are endless in a school environment, from field day and playground use to standard PE curriculum the slacklines offer a new activity for everyone.

“The 2”slacklines are a great addition to any schools existing ropes course and are much more affordable than standard gym equipment,” notes Emilio Torres, VP of Sales for Gibbon.

Teachers of special programs were also in attendance and plan to incorporate slacklining into their programs for children with special needs. “This truly is an activity for everyone and hones a skill important to everyday life functionality,” says Jaime Klinetob, personal trainer.

Gibbon Expanding with New National Exposure

EMS to add the Gibbon product line and national television attention are highlights.

BOULDER, CO March 12, 2010- Gibbon Slacklines announces that their original, easy to use slackline kit will now be carried by Eastern Mountain Sports, a key national retailer.
The chain noticed the 2” lines were drawing a crowd at the Outdoor Retailer Winter Market in Salt Lake City, UT this January. Being a climbing based company, the slacklines are a natural fit and the placement will offer increased exposure of the sport on the East Coast.

REI (Recreational Equipment Inc.) was the first National retailer to pick up Gibbon and reveals their strategy behind doubling last years’ profits was to introduce “new gee-whiz products to take people’s minds off the recession.” Chief Executive Sally Jewell adds,
we needed to find things that would excite people and get them into the outdoors, so (REI) doubled down on such items as slackline kits for backyard tests of balance.” (The Seattle Times 12 March 2010)

Gibbon is also gathering attention in the fitness world after a television spot on nationally syndicated program, “The Doctors.” The show highlighted the benefits of core strength, balance, and lower body strength and challenged celebrity trainer, Jillian Michaels of “The Biggest Loser” to try the line.

Recently, Gibbon added Emilio Torres to the team as the new V.P. of Sales to help manage the rapid growth of the company. His history in the outdoor industry and hand in establishing global recognition for brands such as Crocs, offer Gibbon the experience necessary to follow suit. “It’s a very unique product with tremendous growth potential; I look forward to building a strong sales organization that will focus on wholesale dealer growth furthering the availability of slacklining to the masses,” notes Torres.
